Thread lifting is an aesthetic technique that has been popular in Thailand for a while now. This is a solution for various facial skin problems. It could tighten and lift up the particular area of sagging facial skin, and could also help defining jawline to make the face looks more in shape and contoured.

Threads will be woven together to create more tension to help lifting the skin in that area. The result of thread lifting will be noticeable within 1-2 weeks after the treatment, and will be fully obvious within 1-2 months after.

Types of Thread

There are several types of thread being used in aesthetic purpose. However, there are 3 major types as follows.

The benefit of absorbable PDO threads is that they are going to be completely dissolved and disappeared within 6 months without leaving any residue under the skin. However, despite its incredible potential, this type of thread also has some disadvantages. For example, some bruises might occur in some patients after receiving the treatment, but will fade away within 7-10 days. For some patients, swelling and/or numbed sensation might also happen within the first couple of days, if the nerves were disturbed while suturing. Also, the result of the PDO thread lifting could only last for a short period of time.

For the pros and cons, this kind of thread gives a super long lasting result. The effect could last for up to 3-5 years. However, the patients should be well aware of the fact that silicone can be melted by heat. Any thermal treatments in the future should be avoided. Some dimples will also occur, due to the tension from the threads, and would last for a month before fading away. Besides, be aware that this silicone thread has not been approved by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) yet.

Even though it is a noble metal that rarely does a chemical reaction, gold is still counted as one of the heavy metals. It should be cautiously used, since gold could cause some critical illness if some of the molecules happen to slip into the body organs. For example, it could be the cause of kidney failure if it accidentally spread into the kidneys. It could also cause the anaemia in the case of slipping into the bloodstream.

Moreover, it should be well aware that gold is a very good heat conductive metal. So, you need to inform to the doctor every time before getting any thermal treatments, since the heat conducted by gold could damage the skin tissues.

Thread lifting using golden thread is quite complicate and risky. Hence, the patients should prudently consider about the risks and side effects that could follow before receiving the treatment.

Preparation Before Thread Lifting

• Stop consuming any anticoagulants (anti-clotting) drugs and/or supplements for at least 1-2 weeks before the treatment. For instance, vitamin E products, and some kinds of pain relievers, Aspirin and the other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory (NSAID) drugs.
• Get the health check done before receiving the treatment to make sure that you are not having any hypercoagulation states (blood clotting disorder), not allergic to anesthetic, and have no keloid scars.
